Shauna Niequist writes her way into my heart

Shauna NiequistShauna Niequist makes me want to eat and love people and live my best possible life with a bowl of blueberry icecream in my hands. And that’s just after reading her books! I have fallen inlove with this poetic author and her beautiful take on the truths of life and the wonders of food.

Niequist is an esteemed writer and blogger. Some of you may remember the name from previous bestsellers Bittersweet and Cold Tangerines. I loved follow up novel, Bread & Wine, sent to me by Christian Art Media. This book is a collection of essays and narratives about the beauty and vulnerability of relationships and how having a heart-filled meal around your dinner table can help to heal and encourage them.

Her stories are quirky, encouraging and real! I love that she shares a bit of her life with us, as she celebrates food and her passion for cooking. Oh and the novel is filled with some of her most favorite recipes too! What a score. She says: “My prayer is that you’ll read these pages first curled up on your couch or in bed or in the bathtub, and then after that you’ll bring it to the kitchen with you, turning corners of pages, breaking the spine, spilling red wine on it and splashing viegar across the pages, that it will become battered and stained as you cook and chop and play, music loud and kitchen messy.” Shauna Niequist

Besides for story telling and experimental cooking, the beautiful Shauna has also put together a daily devotional. She explains that the purpose of the 365 Devotions, titled Savor – Living abundantly where you are, as you are– is to encourage you to live an abundant life, in between the roller coaster of all lifes ups and downs.

She shares her heart: “… savor each day, whatever it holds: work and play, coffee and kids, meals and prayers and the good stuff and the hard stuff. Life is all about relationships, and your daily relationship with God is worth savoring in every moment…”

The devotional has “page a day” thoughts and inspirations, to help you set your focus on the positive. It’s also filled with recipes (ones she refers to as her “staples) and real life anecdotes that get you thinking.

These books continue to bless me and Shauna Niequists nuggets of “real talk” wisdom inspires me every day!
